Barnardo's press release

Adopted children's reunion after 50 years
Release Date: Fri, 21 October.2005 /-PM- 03:45:00:00

Barnardo's Family Connections service based in Barkingside recently marked
the 100th anniversary of the charities founder by inviting back adults who
were placed with adopted families as children by Barnardo's.

see rest of story at

http://www.barnardos.org.uk/news_and_events/current_news.htm?id=16776

Can I once again invite anyone who is having or has had difficulty getting
full access to their records from Barnardos Family Connections (used to be
Barnardos Counselling Services Project) to compare notes.

10 years to get medical records, complete denial of existence of other
records that later come to light, mislaying large part of file for 5 years
that kind of thing.

Robin,
Wouldn't the Trade Practices Act (or whatever Britain's equivalent is) mean
they would have to honour their advert (see below)?
The role of the Family Connections service is to hold the adoption records
of all placed by Barnardo's. It also provides advice and support to those
who seek more information about the events and circumstances leading to
their adoption, whilst also helping them to contact their birth family
members if requested. This can be a very emotional time and Family
Connections also provides support to birth family members.

Hi Ray

I don't think things like social services and statutory health provision are
covered by those or similar laws here, it is not a service for which
Barnardos currently makes any charge, though it will be able to under the
new regulations.

I personally believe Barnardo's in England fails to meet other statutory
obligations in order satisfy the wishes of its insures against the risk of
litigation, as of course do other children's charity organisations. I'd like
to see parliament do something about that by making new laws requiring full
disclosure when ever no harm would occur to any living individual as a
result.

My adoption was over 50 years ago, no one else involved is still alive, if
they were they could themselves decide whether or not to give consent fto
disclosure.

I also personally am of an opinion that Barnardos' handling of my own case
in the past would not have reached the new minimum standards in place now,
but to be fair whether it will do that in future still remains to be seen.
I keenly await the decision of meeting last week between Barnardos UK and
its legal advisers, if that is not satisfactory then I still fully intend
to see Barnardo's UK in court.

Robin
